Richard G. Coffey

Managing Director

Rick Coffey's primary responsibility is the sales and marketing of client funds and the development of new client relationships. Rick has over 20 years of experience in venture capital investment, corporate finance, product marketing and distribution, and the management of entrepreneurial companies. Over the course of his career, he has managed allocations to private equity investments--including fund investments, direct investments and co-investments--totaling over $1.7 billion. Rick conceived and founded the first firm in the private equity industry to focus on co-investments exclusively.

Rick was recently Vice President, Corporate Development for Delphi Health Systems, Inc., a developer of software that optimizes the management of care for chronic diseases, where he was responsible for establishing strategic marketing and financing initiatives with other corporations in the healthcare market as well as positioning Delphi for an institutional venture round.

Prior to Delphi, Rick conceived and was a founder of Synchrony Capital, LLC and Tandem Investments, Inc. and their affiliates--the first firms in the private equity industry to focus on co-investments exclusively. He invested in middle-market buyout transactions and expansion financings, originating and/or assisting in the completion of approximately $145 million of private equity investments. Rick completed private equity transactions in the middle market in concert with other general partners that originated new transactions or had existing platform companies that required additional capital for add-on acquisitions.

Before creating Synchrony and Tandem, Rick was the Director of Private Investments for the Pennsylvania Public School Employes' Retirement System ("PSERS") in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. PSERS is a $55 billion fund managed for the benefit of Pennsylvania's public school employees. Rick was responsible for a private investment allocation of $1.5 billion, of which approximately $700 million was committed to private equity partnerships. He managed a portfolio of 38 private equity partnerships, for each of which he was a member of the Advisory Board and/or Valuation Committee. In addition, he managed a $400 million direct investment portfolio, which consisted of investments ranging in size from $14 million to $140 million in ten companies.

Prior to joining PSERS, Rick was a principal in a Washington, DC regional investment banking firm, where he represented entrepreneurial to middle-market companies in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, venture financing and private placements. Previously, Rick was a founder and officer of a company that provided marketing, distribution and strategic consulting services to start-up and venture capital-backed companies.

Rick is a member of the board of directors of the Greater Hartford YMCA, where he sits on the Endowment Investment and other committees. He was a member of the board of directors of AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ - "ANCC") during and after the period of its initial public offering.

Rick received an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from The Darden School of the University of Virginia. He holds series 7 and 63 registrations.
